The Duty of Candour, which took effect on April 1, 2018, requires social care services to follow specific procedures when a serious adverse event occurs. They must inform the affected individuals, offer to meet with them, and provide an apology. This approach is crucial for maintaining transparency with those receiving care and for learning from any mistakes.
Starting in April 2019, it became a legal requirement for care services and social work services to produce an annual report summarising the lessons learned from their Duty of Candour incidents throughout the year. This report must be published and the Care Inspectorate must be notified of its completion.

Duty of Candour – Annual Report 2022/2023
During the period from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, there have been no incidents that necessitated the application of the Duty of Candour.
Teen Challenge UK is aware of its legal obligation under the Duty of Candour to ensure transparency when errors occur, as defined by legislation. This involves helping those affected understand the incident, offering apologies, and ensuring that the organisation learns from these events and makes future improvements.
Submitting this annual report is a component of fulfilling that duty.
Employees are educated about the Duty of Candour, with responsibility for oversight and implementation assigned to the Centre Manager and the Executive Chair.
This process entails conducting a review with all involved parties and making necessary amendments to policies and practices. Additionally, if employees experience distress due to such an event, they will receive support from the Executive Chair.
