I am the second of five children and I grew up on a council estate on the edge of town. Growing up was tough when lack and hardship was a constant companion to us, my mum fought to give us the best she could, even if she had to go without so that we didn’t have to.
I used to be a bit shy and would always be looking for affirmation as a young man from my dad, which, sadly never came. At school I began to look for acceptance in all the wrong places and began running with a gang. Soon – trouble – and the police - were my new constant companions. This gang life got worse and worse until I ended up in jail and all that entails. I was 16 yrs old and had been out of school for barely 6 months. Prison life was harsh back in the late 80,s and a) to relieve the boredom and b) to keep in with the crowd, I began experimenting with drugs and came out of jail, newly educat- ed in drug taking and with a wealth of criminal contacts.
